Green yet intuitive

I think these designs are not just about being eco-friendly but about a refreshing and simple way to think about how we use ordinary objects around us.

This notepad-post it idea must have many people declaring "I was thinking about that too! Well, sorta.."

Actually people are more resourceful than they think they are. In Singapore, I was observing how hawker centres dealt with not having ash trays at dominantly non-smoking areas and by re-using condensed milk/ soda cans. So innovative, yet missed so easily.

you might want to read the comments too at the bottom of that "sustainable" designs page. and once you calculate the total environmental footprint of making all these things it is not clear what the net benefit to the environment might be. using used cans as ash trays (and that too in a non-smoking areas, when the better environmental thing to do would be to simply not allow smoking) might make them less likely to be recycled or more expensive to recycle. and reading papers online might mean not needing to even have to recycle the hard copies.

it is not easy to calculate the net impact on the environment of many so-called green products. of all the things one could do, the best things that have a big net positive benefit is stopping eating meat, and walking or taking public transportation to work. A few meaty meals could well undo the effects of many careful and painstaking efforts of recycling.
